Debating of the Monks

Debating of the Monks

from 75.00

The purpose of the Tibetan monastic debate is to defeat misconceptions, establish a defensible view, and to clear away objections to that view.

In practice you have the challenger who is standing asking questions and a defended, who is sitting and answering.

The dramatic clapping is done by the challenger to punctuate the end of a question, which is an argument in response to the defenders answer.

The right hand represents method, specifically more the practice of compassion, and the left represents wisdom.

In that same gesture, the challenger uses his right hand to raise his prayer beads around his left arm representing the fulfillment of the efforts of compassion, in lifting up all suffering beings out of the round of rebirth
